Probably most of the farms and lands around Goyts Moss were purchased at this auction by Mr. Grimshaw esq., who built himself a large Hall in the bottom of the Clough which is now part of the Goyt Reservoir system and country park. The Hall has since been demolished, but the remains of the grounds exist along with disused quarries.
